In the fictional portion of the Sierra foothills, a particular creek makes a particularly sharp bend not too far from the town of Angel’s Camp and, it is on this spot, quite some years ago, that a modest country house was built. The creek is unusual in that it flows down from the north and then bends east while most everything else in the area flows west toward the ocean. Once the creek passes the house, it splits again and again until it eventually just disappears into the countryside.
Now, in this country house lives a kind and elderly woman named Mrs. Wilson. She’s not too elderly, though. Just elderly enough to be clearly wise and well-respected, but not too much so that she can’t whop a raccoon with a broom when necessary.
Mrs. Wilson lives alone most of the time, however, during the summer months, she is visited by her young grandson, Cody. He’s young, rambunctious and a bit mischievous with a fondness for animals, especially the small ones that live around and near Mrs. Wilson’s house.
